A. Check your local papers for the more affordable chihuahuas but be careful with the Chi. Children are not always the best with them because of their delicate condition. Nothing against children, but they are just so tiny and can be temperamental, especially if you are getting one that is an adult. If you got a puppy you could familiarize it to be around you and your kid(s) and would settle better than an adult who has only been around 1 or 2 other adults. Hope that helps.

If the stomach is swelling up you have a chance of gas forming in the stomach or back up because the gravel is blocking air/waste from coming out appropriately, the animal is probably very uncomfortable and avoiding any pressure on it's stomach through laying down or eating. Honestly the number one thing you can do is take them to a pet clinic before a chance of complication occurs.

What is the main reason you got a pet for yourself?
Q. When you got your pet, if you were younger, did you consider what you would do, if or when you had children? The reason I ask, I work at an animal shelter and too many of them are simply discarded when people have children. I just wish people would think harderbefore getting themselves apet. It's a commitment for 10-15 years.

Given my situation children are extremely unlikely even disregarding the fact that I do not want them, nor do I want a relationship or have much interest in sex. I firmly believe that when you make a commitment to a living being you are obliged to honour that commitment.

I have had: mice, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, cockateils, parakeets, hedgehog, gerbils, shrews, ferrets,fresh and salt water fish, iguanas, skinks, texas collared lizards, chameleons, hermit crabs, many breeds of dogs and cats, pigs, goats, horses, chickens & various farm fowl, rehabilitated possums, snakes, squirrels, rabbits, birds, fox, skunk and I am sure other things to. Most of these were rescues and rehabbed. But some stayed and finished their days out with me in peace. I have loved every one of them but If I have to pick something I am partial to I would have to say it is the cat. PS: Although dirtier than most of my above list, I am guessing that my 16yrs old son does not count, right?? LOL

A. I remember back in the 70's, some people in California had some of those rats. Some of them escaped (or they were let go because they were too big), and they would break into peoples houses at night and make off with their infant children in their pouches. It wasn't a pretty site.

A. Birds are not vaccinated, period. Taking a bird across the border isn't something you should even consider doing, for a variety of reasons. Health of your bird being being number one. I would imagine you would need prof of ownership along with leg band on the bird and the number's of written on paper. Contact the Mexican Authorities before doing anything else. Ask what the rules are and what documents you would need. As you know, getting in is one thing, getting your bird back out and into the USA is yet another things, so also check with the USA authorities before going also. You may be able to find out online.
